Building Safety Tips:

Medical Emergency Response Guidelines

Location: 1100 S. Hope St., Los Angeles, CA 90015

If you encounter someone experiencing a medical emergency, your quick and calm response can make a significant difference. Please follow these protocols to ensure help arrives as fast as possible.

Immediate Key Steps

  1. Assess the Scene: Do not move the individual unless they are in immediate danger (e.g., fire, falling debris, or traffic).
  2. Call 911 Immediately: Clearly state the nature of the emergency.
  3. Provide Precise Location Details: Give the dispatcher the building address (1100 S. Hope St.) along with the specific floor and unit number.
  4. Notify the Front Desk: Call (213) 742-0387. Inform them that emergency personnel are en route so they can lock out an elevator for exclusive use by paramedics.
  5. Coordinate Arrival: If possible, send a second person to the lobby or building entrance to meet and guide the paramedics directly to the location.

Important Safety Reminders

  • Stay Calm: Take deep breaths. Your composure helps the victim stay calm and ensures you provide accurate information to dispatchers.
  • Know Your Limits: Only provide first aid or CPR if you are currently trained and certified.
  • No Intake: Do not offer food, water, or oral medication (including aspirin) unless specifically instructed to do so by a 911 dispatcher or medical professional.
  • Maintain Presence: Stay with the individual and keep them comfortable until professional help arrives.

Common Emergencies: Quick Action Guide

EmergencyAction to Take
ChokingIf the person cannot breathe, cough, or speak, perform abdominal thrusts (Heimlich Maneuver).
Unconscious / Not BreathingCall 911 immediately. If you are trained, check for a pulse and begin CPR.
Severe BleedingApply firm, direct pressure to the wound using a clean cloth or bandage. Do not remove the cloth if it becomes soaked; add more layers on top.
SeizuresDo not restrain the person or place anything in their mouth. Clear away hard or sharp objects and place something soft under their head.
Heart Attack / StrokeLook for chest pain, shortness of breath, or facial drooping. Call 911 immediately; every second counts for brain and heart tissue.
Overdose / PoisoningCall 911 and try to identify the substance involved. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by Poison Control or emergency operators.
