Dear Luma Residents,

Mosquitos – Suggestions to Prevent and Control

Mosquitoes are often a nuisance during warmer months. They multiply quickly and can become a problem if you do not take steps to control their population. But as with most pests, control starts with prevention.  Your Association takes several steps every month to help mitigate this problem in the common areas but there is a lot you can do to help yourself and your neighbors.

Here’s how to prevent mosquitoes around your home and community:

Remove Sources of Standing Water – This is the most important step.  Mosquitoes lay their eggs in and around standing water. Eliminating sources of stagnant water around your home is one of the most effective measures of helping to prevent mosquitoes. Check potted plants, flower vases, containers left on your balcony that may allow water to accumulate. This will eliminate the habitat that certain types of mosquitos need to thrive.

If you have sources of standing water outside, such as pet bowls, be sure to change the water at least once a week. By doing so, you’ll interrupt the mosquito breeding process and help prevent any eggs laid in the water from reaching adulthood.

Protect Yourself – When you are outdoors, there are a few additional steps you can take to help prevent bothersome mosquito bites. First, avoid being outside during dawn and dusk, when many species of mosquitoes are most active. Second, wear long pants and sleeves if possible to limit exposed skin. Finally, a mosquito repellent.   According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), products containing the following active ingredients typically provide reasonably long-lasting protection:

DEET

Picaridin

Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) or PMD

IR3535

Call a Professional – Often times, effectively controlling mosquitoes around your home means seeking the help of professionals. Mosquitoes produce rapidly, and their populations can be difficult to control. Trained mosquito control professionals know where mosquitoes hide and the best control methods to use.

Mask mandate: New LA County health order requires face coverings indoors as COVID cases spike

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is re-implementing a mandate requiring residents to wear masks while indoors, regardless of their vaccination status.

The county previously only recommended mask-wearing indoors. The new mandate will take effect at 11:59 p.m. Saturday night, officials announced.

That means you and all your guests will need to wear a properly fitted face covering while in any of the Association’s indoor common areas.

There are two motorcycles parked in the Luma garage with expired registration tags and a lot of dust on them. One is a Ducati; the other is a Kawasaki. Please note the rules state that no unregistered vehicles of any kind, may be kept or maintained anywhere in the building. If you are the owner of one or both of these vehicles or if you know who is, please contact the HOA Management office. If the motorcycles are not claimed, we will pursue having them towed.
