SPBID Candidate Introductions
Posted By flanglois on January 20, 2020
Dear Residents,
A message from the Executive Director of the South Park BID, Ellen Riotto.
Dear Downtown Stakeholders,
If you’ve been to a South Park BID event or meeting in the last 12 months, you’ve heard me and the board emphasize the importance of the upcoming election for a new council person to represent District 14 in the City of Los Angeles.
Much of the work that we do through the BID requires partnership with the City, and the council office is our direct connection to the various departments and agencies that the City controls. For better or worse, everything from streetlights to development impacts, homelessness to park space, LAPD presence to potholes, comes down to the council office. Downtown needs a representative who understands the nuances of this dynamic neighborhood, and who will fight to ensure that we receive the resources we need to maintain our role as the economic generator, residential hub, and entertainment core of the City as a whole.
Historically, elections for this seat have been determined by other neighborhoods in the district, largely because voter turnout from downtown voters has been weak. Whether you’ve been in downtown for 3 months or 15 years, this is your home and you have a voice. Consider this message a reminder to use that voice at the primary election on March 3rd 2020.
To help you prepare, the business improvement districts in downtown have co-organized a forum to introduce voters to the qualified candidates on Wednesday, January 22nd from 6:00p to 7:30p at South Park Center (USC Tower), located at 1149 S. Hill St., Los Angeles, CA 90015. Please RSVP below and spread the word to your neighbors and friends.
Thank you for taking pride in your civic duty.
Best,
Ellen Riotto
Executive Director
