FRIDAYS: Sounds of South Park

THIS WEEKEND: LA Art Show
The LA Art Show returns to the Convention Center today through Sunday. Over 80 galleries, museums, and non-profit arts organizations from around the world are exhibiting painting, sculpture, works on paper, installation, photography, design, video and performance art. THIS WEEKEND: Metro Service Interruption
As part of the final push for construction on the Regional Connector, Metro is connecting the A (Blue) and E (Expo) lines to the Regional Connector, requiring weekend only-interruption of service to the A (Blue) and E (Expo) lines at 7th St/Metro Center and Pico stations. Service interruption will take place from 9pm Friday through end of service Sunday on the following weekends:
- July 30, 2021
- August 6, 2021
- August 13, 2021
A free bus shuttle, Line 859, will replace train service between 7th Street/Metro Center, Pico Station, Grand/LATTC Station and LATTC/Ortho Institute Station. There will be no impact to B Line (Red) and D Line (Purple) service.
8/1: DTLA Marketplace
This Sunday, 8/1 from 11AM to 4PM, enjoy live music and food trucks at this free event to support small businesses and local artisans. Located at Metropolis, 1100 S Olive St. Click here for more information.
8/3: National Night Out
LAPD Central Area is hosting National Night Out events in three locations, including one in South Park (Olympic & Figueroa). Attendees will have the opportunity to meet officers serving their neighborhoods, ask questions, and more. Click here for details.
Alley Traffic Signal Modification (Evo’s Flashing Red Light)
Evo has made modifications to the red flashing light near their north gate. It is now solid red when a car is approaching from Evo’s parking garage and it is flashing red when there is no car approaching. Evo is planning to post a sign. All three communities will continue to monitor the safety situation in the back alley to determine if other measures are necessary.

Do you know how much electricity and money it takes to run your home appliances? To assist in conserving energy, the LADWP offers the following tips to live a more energy efficient lifestyle at home.
Energy Using Appliances in your Home
Item 1 – Central Air Conditioner
Cost/Month: $75.00
Install or program a programmable thermostat (originally installed by the developer of Luma) to adjust the temperature automatically and maximize your energy savings
Set thermostat at 78° in summer and 68° in winter, turn off when not at home
Clean or replace filters and have the condensing coils cleaned frequently
Set the fan speed on low when humidity is high to cool more effectively and remove more moisture from the air
Item 2 – Refrigerator and Freezer
Cost/Month: $13.76
Clean coils regularly, especially during the summer
Maintain airtight door seals
Refrigerators run more efficiently when they’re full
Purchase new Energy Star Model and recycle old unit
Item 3 – LED TV

Choose an Energy Star® rated LCD TV – they use less energy than plasma TVs
Turn it off when you leave the room

Clean coils regularly, especially during the summer

Freezers run more efficiently when they’re full

Turn off all lighting when not in use
Replace all Incandescent and CFL lamps with LED lamps
Use task lighting. Instead of brightly lighting an entire room, focus the light where you need it

More Energy Saving Tips
Be aware of “Energy Vampires.” Any appliance with a clock or ”instant on” setting is an “Energy Vampire” when it uses electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Unplug all non-essential appliances and electronics when not in use. Consider installing an advanced power strip, which automatically turns off idle electronics.
Limit the use of appliances during peak hours of the day — use washing machines, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, and other heavy appliances during evening hours.
Ventilate your home in the late evening by opening windows and balcony doors to clear out the heat and allow cooler air to circulate.

Mask mandate: New LA County health order requires face coverings indoors as COVID cases spike
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has re-implementing a mandate requiring residents to wear masks while indoors, regardless of their vaccination status. The new mandate is in full effect. That means anyone entering Luma’s common areas must be wearing a properly fitted face covering regardless if you vaccinated or not. Thank you for your cooperation.
